Day 32
We had a little fog this morning and the temps were in the high 40's... But you know who... Wanted to go to shore.
It would be easier if the boy would just use his "tinkle turf"
Ahhhh. Relief!
We put the dinghy up and heard the lock operator say the green light was on for down bound ... So we quickly pulled up anchor and joined Trinity in the first lock..
His name is Forest and he's traveling alone.. He too is headed for the Keys.
Phil and I handled the lock like pros..
The second lock was another story... Barges have priority.. And there was one in the lock north bound and another barge going south bound... Then us.. There would be a two hour wait .. But the lock operator said we could tie up to his wall and then get us through when he could.. No problem.. We hadn't had breakfast yet anyway..
So Forest, Phil and I tied up to the wall.
Phil and I had bacon, eggs and English muffins.. Fresh pot of coffee.. We had a leisure breakfast, time to wash the dishes, and tidy up!
Can't beat the view... Even from inside.
We passed the southbound barge and made good time to the next lock!! It too had a northbound barge coming thru and south bound waiting.. Sound bound gave us and Forest the ok to take the lock... That was the break we needed... With that we were on our way...
We went through 6 locks today ..
We did very well.. Forest left us back at Midway after 4 locks we pressed on two more and hope we could find a good anchorage spot.
At the Cutoff, there are dredgers and barges but we passed them up the cutoff and dropped anchor about 5:20.. I think most of these guys had gone home..
Here we are tucked away .
Darn dog needs to find the shore.. Tonight we found a soft bottom sandy beach ...
Lucky boy!!
