Day 29
We knew it was time to go when we saw the geese flying out..
Great weather and easy travels.
We had two locks to pass through Joe Wheeler lock and Wilson Lock.. Both with quite a drop!! We were lucky today with very little to no waiting at both of them..
I believe the Wilson lock drops you close to 90 feet..
All went well, we felt good about our abilities to handle the lines and enter and exit these massive locks..
So far there has been very little traffic so we have had the locks to ourselves.. This all might be crazier with more boats.
I think leaving now gets us ahead of the crowd... But we shall see..
We passed several boats heading to Joe Wheeler for the rendezvous .. And guess what... We got a call from the "looper" organizers.. We can get in now... Well, to late we are on our way south.. Either choice, would be good.. We are just ready to move on down river.
We tried to get a slip at Florence... They were full and there was no slips available.. We pressed on until we reach Bear Creek and found a super cove that was perfect for the night.
Our dinghy ride to shore was easy and fun.
This lake area( Pickwick) of the river is wonderful... Clean and nice coves for family fun..
Frozen margaritas.. Perfect!
Sunsets are colorful !

ReplyDeleteWow! You are almost to MS. You have certainly seen some beautiful scenery. What is your route from here? I think you said you enter the Gulf in Mobile. I was looking on the map trying how you will get there from where you are! Have fun! Polly
